Juvederm is an injectable filler comprised of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring component in healthy skin. When injected into specific treatment sites on the skin, the hyaluronic acid provides hydration and acts as a sort of scaffolding for your skin. It will support the skin at the depression or wrinkle site, helping it to appear smoother and younger.
What to Expect in Treatment
When you begin your Juvederm treatment with Dr. Gill, your skin will first be carefully cleansed. The entire treatment process should take no more than half an hour. The injection site will be carefully chosen where the solution will provide an optimal result.
Using a special technique, Dr. Gill will inject the Juvederm solution under the top layers of skin. He may gently massage the injection site to ensure a smooth, even application. An anesthetic is usually not necessary for most patients as Juvederm contains lidocaine to increase patient comfort.
Recovering from Juvederm Treatment
Following your Juvederm treatment, the injection site may feel overly full or tight. You may experience some swelling or redness, but these feelings are temporary and will dissipate within a few days. The application of an ice pack may help to curb these side effects. You should also avoid alcohol and strenuous activity for the first 24 hours after treatment.
The skin smoothing effects of your Juvederm treatment may last from six to twelve months. As the solution is reabsorbed by the body, many patients choose to return for follow-up treatments to maintain the effect. Usually, a much smaller amount of Juvederm is necessary for maintenance of the wrinkle reduction.
