Male chest implants, also known as pectoral implants are designed for men who desire an enhanced shape and chest contour, but cannot achieve this goal through exercise or weight training. With special silicone pectoral implants, a plastic surgeon can provide aesthetic chest enhancement through improved delineation of the pectoral muscles.
Houston board certified plastic surgeon Paul S. Gill MD can perform pectoral augmentation for men who want an enhanced chest contour.
Pectoral augmentation is suitable for the man who elects to aesthetically enhance his chest. Plastic surgeons typically perform this surgery for cosmetic purposes, but it may also be appropriate in reconstructive cases, where anatomic and structural irregularities have affected the chest wall. Indications for male chest implant surgery include:
If you are considering pectoral implants for any of the reasons above, Houston plastic surgeon Paul S. Gill can help you determine whether the surgery can meet your needs.
During pectoral augmentation surgery, Dr. Gill places silicone implants beneath the pectoralis major muscle. The operation takes about 1 to 2 hours under a general anesthetic or local anesthesia with sedation. A short (5-6 cm) incision is placed between the underarm and the areola. The doctor dissects the edge of pectoral muscle and creates space for the implant. The implants are then carefully set into place and final adjustments are made before the incisions are closed, with drains to collect fluid buildup. Your chest is then wrapped with a gauze and an elastic bandage.
After your male chest implant surgery, you should expect to have the drains in place for 5 to 7 days. Antibiotics and pain medications may be prescribed. Dr. Gill will follow-up soon after your surgery and provide specific aftercare instructions. He may also schedule followup visits to monitor your progress. You should be ready to resume your normal routine after about 6 weeks. Possible complications with male chest enhancement and implants include asymmetry, seroma formation, hematoma and infection. If you are concerned about risks, be sure to ask Dr. Gill for more details during your consultation.
