Facelift in Houston

For many individuals, one of the best ways to improve your youth and vivaciousness is with a facelift performed by plastic surgeon Dr. Paul Gill in Houston—a procedure that corrects aging and droopiness of the jaw, neck, and lower face.

If You're Considering a Facelift in Houston

Though it is a popular procedure—more than 110,000 were performed in the US in 2010—facelift surgery techniques can vary depending on the patient's aesthetic goals. Most often, however, the goal of a facelift is to correct some of the following issues:

  • Sagging jowls
  • Excess skin in the lower face
  • Folds of skin on the neck
  • Loose underlying tissues on the lower face

Optimal results from a facelift in Houston can leave you looking more than 10 years younger, leading to improved quality of life following surgery.

To be an ideal patient for a facelift you should be between 40 and 60 years old with good skin elasticity and be a healthy, non-smoker. It is also important to have realistic expectations for the outcome of your procedure and to notify Dr. Gill if you have high blood pressure, blood clotting issues or if you tend to form excessive scars.

What to Expect in Surgery

Dr. Gill uses a variety of techniques to meet the aesthetic goals of each patient. Many facelift procedures are now done with a local anesthetic, but general anesthesia is a common choice for more extensive facial procedures. The surgery will last two to three hours.

Most often, Dr. Gill will make an incision at the temples behind the hairline extending in front of your ears and then behind your earlobe. Through this incision, Dr. Gill will remove the excess fat and skin that leads to drooping of the lower face. He will then carefully redrape the skin and close the incision with sutures before covering it with a dressing.

Recovering from a Facelift

In some cases, a facelift can have a lengthy recovery lasting up to three weeks. During this time, you will need to get plenty of rest and limit your activity. You may experience swelling and discomfort, which may be managed with medication. The scars you may see will fade over time and Dr. Gill will let you know when you can apply makeup to cover the after-effects of surgery.
